定语从句一句话看懂

关系代词（which/that/who）= 代左边名词（先行词），做右边从句里的主语或宾语

一、三种用法

二、左右对调法（写定语从句的钥匙）

• 把右边的句子"还回去"：you gave me the book → the book that you gave me（that 左右对调）
• I was born in the coffee shop → the coffee shop in which I was born（介词 in 提前，保留）
• 对比：the place where I was born（从句完整）vs the place which has blue chairs（which 做主语）

三、限制性 vs 非限制性（删除测试）

• The students who are lazy will fail.（去掉：只剩"学生都会挂"，意思全变 → 限制性，无逗号）
• The students, who are lazy, will fail.（去掉句意不变 → 非限制性，补充说明）

测试法：删掉从句，句意变 → 限制性；句意不变 → 非限制性（有逗号，阅读时可跳过）。

四、阅读里的凝练（长句压缩术）

原文：In other words, they gave no indication of an appreciation of either the range of ways in which rainforests are important or the complex social, economic and political factors which drive the activities which are destroying the rainforests.

凝练出来 = 他们没说热带雨林重要（在哪些方式上），也不知道是政治因素在驱动毁灭雨林的活动。

• in which → ways；which drive → factors；which are destroying → activities
• 阅读技巧：看到 which/that/in which，往左找名词 = 被修饰对象，往右读动词 = 说什么

• The coffee shop in which I was born has blue chairs that I love.
• She's the kind of person who never gives up, which really makes me think.
